The Business of Writing About Sex: May 2015

Another crazy month, another month of putting writing last and everything else first. No complaints because I was needed and I could help, and that’s all that matters. But I’m glad for June. Now I have some extra time to focus on my work and my writing, and I am SO excited. Even with all the craziness, though, May wasn’t a bad month.

If you write about sex, are willing to share other people’s posts, and want to grow your readership, click on the link above to join the tribe. I swear by Triberr for helping my page views grow.

The group shrank last month because a few people were no longer sharing. I get it, life happens, but the point of the group is to share each other’s posts. Those same people will be welcome to join again when they’re in a better position to log-in. No stress, no pressure. 🙂

Around the Web

I’m starting a new section for this monthly post now that I’m starting to get content published in other places. Most of what I’ve been writing has been about BDSM. Check out any of these and show the websites some love.

My Two Cents

Just write. My advice is as much for you as it is for me. Whatever is it, whatever words and thoughts are tumbling around in your brain, just write. For any of us who feel a compulsion to share our thoughts through the written word, don’t let fear of other people’s opinions hold you back.

Sure, not everyone will like it or understand it. But someone will.  Hell, maybe you don’t understand what you’re writing or why you’re writing it. The more you write, the better you get at it. And the clearer your thoughts become.

And yes, we absolutely have to keep our audiences in mind but the audience who’s connected with you on a personal level won’t be turned away just because you write something new or different. Your most loyal readers will probably cheer you on.

Writers write, whether we’re published authors, professional bloggers, or just sharing our worldview because we can’t imagine doing anything else. When you think you have nothing else to write about, check to make sure you’re not holding yourself back due to faulty expectations or fears about what others will say or think.

  • Hi Kayla!

Thank for writing this. It’s giving me the kick in my pants that I need. I know you’ve offered your email and guidance before, but I have misplaced it. Could you please send it again? I’m at the point that I have 3 novels ready to e-publish (have Kindle-formatted them and edited as much as I humanly can), and now am struggling with titles (there are 6 in the series) and cover art. I want to do this! I feel like once I can release this series, it will open me up for more writing and creativity. Now that I can, I want to make this my full-time job, to give myself goals and discipline to write, blog, publish on a scheduled basis, rather than “when I feel like it.” This is what I’ve always wanted to do. Thank you again for the reminders!! DD ([email protected] )
