The Business of Writing About Sex: March 2015

Lordy, y’all, the month is almost half over and I’m just now sharing last month’s sex blogging and erotic writing numbers with you. Shame on me!

In my defense, March was insane. John Brownstone and I bought a condo and we spent our Spring Break remodeling. We still have more to do, but we’re well on our way to making our new home livable. But, this meant that some of my kinky writing time was used for other things so the start of any new books was put on hold. Le sigh.

Okay, but what about March?

Erotic Book Sales

Paid – this includes The Adventures of Sir and BabygirlSir and Babygirl: Bound by Love, and on Amazon only: Madame Gretchen, The Visitor and The Big Game

  • Amazon – 63 (best month!)
  • iBooks – 2
  • Kobo – 2
  • All Romance – 1
  • Kindle Unlimited Borrows (Madame Gretchen only) – 8

Free – the only free titles I have are The Visitor and The Big Game

  • Smashwords – 60
  • iBooks – 14
  • Barnes & Noble – 11
  • All Romance – 145

On March 5, an anthology I participated in for Erotic World Book Day was released. An Intimate Education has 22 stories from erotic writers across the UK and the states. All proceeds go to charity. If you don’t have your copy yet, you can get it on Amazon. Not my published book so no statistics for that one.

Well, the sales numbers reflect my promotional efforts on Amazon – because of Madame Gretchen, of course. I’m currently looking into different ways to promote my books on other platforms – in ways that don’t make me look spammy but allow me to gain some traction on different sites other than just Amazon.

In other news, the next book on the drawing board is the third Sir and Babygirl, affectionately known (only in my mind until this very second) as Family Ties. Yeah, I’m cute and original, right? Whatevs.

My Two Cents

Okay so here’s the part where I usually impart some wisdom, but I have a question instead based on a few things that have been said to me over the past several weeks.

Would anyone actually be interested in weekly posts on marketing, blogging, writing, etc?

I’m not even going to attempt to try to tell people how to write their erotic books (unless you want me, but I don’t think you do). But I spend my entire vanilla working life immersed in digital and content marketing and I have definite opinions on what works, what doesn’t work, and what might be good to try.  I’m more than happy to stick with writing my kinky fuckery, but if there’s an interest and a demand, I’ll share what I know on a more regular basis.
