Sex Bloggers Unite…or Something Like That

triberr group for sex bloggers

More and more, I’m asked, “How do you do it? How do you promote yourself? You’re a-maaaaaaaaazing!” Ok, I made that last part up, lol. I have a few basic answers that I usually give:

  • You have to blog consistently. You don’t have to be like me and do it nearly every day, but you can’t blog twice in one week, take a three week break, and then blog like a fiend for two days before you stop again. Well, you can, but it makes things more difficult.
  • You need to be present on social media – but you don’t have to be everywhere, all the time. No really, you don’t.
  • You need to be willing to commit some amount of time to promotion.

Of course, I’m usually talking to other authors. And I definitely have opinions on marketing oneself as an author. Today, though, I’m not talking specifically to authors. I’m talking to my original peeps…my fellow sex bloggers.

Sex Bloggers Write with a Purpose

So here’s the deal. The vast majority of us began our blogs simply because we had something to say and wanted it to be in a format where it could be read by someone else. Let’s face it, if this was simply about journaling, we’d all be using pen and paper or our sites would be protected and hidden. That’s not the case, is it? We write what makes us happy, but we hope and pray someone will read it.

Not everyone is trying to get their blog out to the masses in order to make a ton of money. Believe it or not, neither am I. I want people to read what I write and genuinely like me and my words for what they are and what they represent. After that, I hope they’ll decide they like me enough to buy a book, but I don’t worry about whether that happens or not. But I always like having more eyes on my blog posts.

Using the Tools Available to You

My number one tool for getting my blog in front of other people is something called Triberr. It’s an online system for sharing posts within groups that you join (also called “tribes”). With a few settings adjustments and about five minutes a day, you share the posts of your fellow tribe-mates, and they share your posts. Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are the three social media options for sharing. I use Twitter to share posts. You can set up one, two, or all three, I believe. Not sure how many sex bloggers are on LinkedIn, but hey, if that’s your thing, go for it.

What this means is that your posts are being shared out to other people’s audiences. Is everyone going to click your link? No, but a lot of people will – especially if your title is interesting or you use a good hashtag in the title (that’s why you see so many in my titles). The title of your post and the link to your post is what gets shared out via Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn.

Each day, I receive a couple dozen visitors from Twitter alone – and I’ve picked up a ton of new followers, too – both on the blog and on Twitter.

Want to know an extra secret? Masturbation Monday would never have been a thing if readers hadn’t made those posts my most popular each week – and that never would have happened if I hadn’t used the hashtag in my title and then had my posts shared through Triberr.

Sex Bloggers Unite

So why all this talk about Triberr? Well, I created a tribe just for Sex Bloggers called (unoriginally) Sex Bloggers Unite. I want to invite sex bloggers who need a way to promote their blogs to new audiences to join.

By joining you become obligated to share tribemate’s posts to your followers, too – keep that in mind. Someone in the group might write on a topic you’re not a fan of or have a style you don’t like.

Here’s how it works:

  • You’ll need a Twitter, Facebook, or a LinkedIn account. (By the way, a LOT of vanilla, business tribes exist, so LinkedIn makes complete sense for them).
  • You’ll need to sign up for Triberr and create an account. To do that, you’ll need your blog address/RSS feed address, and you’ll want to make or find a profile pic you can use and write a short bio.
  • Play with your settings. I have mine set to post a new tweet (a shared post) every 15 minutes. I look like I’m on all day, but it’s really 5 minutes of effort.
  • Join the Sex Bloggers Unite tribe (here’s the link). You’re only option will be to “follow” the tribe, and I’ll go in and promote you to a member. When you follow a tribe, you share the members’ posts but they don’t share yours. When you’re a member, everyone is sharing everyone’s posts. Being a follower is a good way to get in good with tribes when you don’t know the Chief (lol, I’m a “chief”) or leader of a tribe.

Every couple of days, log in and share the posts in your stream. There’s a handy-dandy “share” button that makes it easy. You can only “approve” 100 shares at a time so I don’t recommend going too long between log-ins, but my tribe doesn’t require sharing every day (though some do).

Ta-da! That’s about it.

I’ve been on Triberr for several months, possibly over a year (I’ve lost track of time), and I’m a member of 15 tribes with a reach of over 2 million – that means between every single tribe I’m on and every follower of every tribemate, potentially over two million people could see my post. I’m a member of a LOT of erotic author and blogging tribes. I thought it was time to create my own so my fellow sex bloggers who feel like they don’t have a way to find new followers could ban together as a, oh Lord, I’m going to say it, a tribe, and help each other out.

If you sign up for Triberr and have questions or if some reason you can’t find the tribe (after signing up), let me know, and I’ll help you out. The email lines are always open at kaylalords (at) gmail (dot) com.

  • facebook, linkin are quite restrictive about sexual content and I have problems with my posts on these sites

ever got penalized by facebook by not allowing to post for a few days after I post some sexual content

in pinterest, my pins were taken down due to their sexy nature and was given warning that I do that again in posting sexy stuff, my board will be closed down

life as a sex blogger is not easy, feel like being a persecuted group

if same-sex marriage is no longer a taboo in US and Europe, why is sex is still a taboo?

    • You bring up a good point. Twitter is much more forgiving of adult content than Facebook. That’s why I don’t auto share everything out to Facebook on Triberr like I do with Twitter.

Tumblr is the place to go for adult pictures – Pinterest is VERY strict, as you’ve learned.

And I wish same-sex marriage wasn’t taboo here. We’re slowly coming around, state by state, but if the country (as a whole) can’t handle seeing two men kiss, it’s going to be a while before they can handle naked women trussed up and suspended from a ceiling.

    • If you’re a member of just one group, and you log-in every couple of days, there won’t be a flood. Plus, you can set it so that posts are shared every 30 minutes or hour so the shares are gradual. I’ve got you upgraded to a member. Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂
