Wicked Wednesday

Past or Future #WickedWednesday

“Hey there. I know it’s been a while, but I was just thinking about you, and thought I’d give you a call. Um, give me a call when you get this message. I’d love to hear your voice again. You’ve been on my mind a lot lately.”

Babygirl froze at the sound of his voice, the first in over a year. Goosebumps pebbled her skin as a chill coursed through her body. Trembling, she put down the phone and walked into the bedroom.

What do I do? Do I call him? Fuck, how dare he do this to me? A thousand thoughts ran through her mind. His voice still managed to take her breath away. Memories crashed into her – his smile, his eyes, the last time they played. She always wished she’d known that would be their last time. Was it the last time?

The moment the thought entered her mind, she was overwhelmed with guilt. She’d never been loved the way that Sir loved her. She knew she loved him beyond compare. Her love for the man who came before him paled in comparison. So how can he have such an effect over me after all this time?

Shaking her head to rid herself of the thoughts racing through her mind, she took a look around her bedroom. Something was different.

“What’s this?” Babygirl walked over to her bed. On the pillow was a rose and a folded piece of paper. Sitting on the side of the bed, she inhaled the heady scent of the petals and began to read:

Dearest Babygirl,

I hated leaving this morning. I didn’t want to wake up because I knew getting out of bed meant starting the day. But I also knew I needed to get home. Except home is wherever you are. You are my home. Your arms wrapped around me, your leg across mine in the night, the sweet smell of your skin filling my nose. This is how I want to spend every single night.

As you read this, I’m speeding down the highway, and I’m hating it. But I make you this promise – I’m going to find a way for us to be together every single night, every day. You are my moon and stars, Babygirl.

Love always,
Sir

Tears spilled down her face and her shoulders shook with the force of her sobs. She’d tried not to think about how much she missed her Sir all day, using the busy workday to focus on anything else but the knowledge that he had to return home today.

There was no question in her mind where her heart belonged and to whom. She believed him when he promised that they would be together. She’d been thinking about it, too, and she looked forward to planning a future with him.

Babygirl knew what she needed to do. Walking back into the living room, she picked up her phone and deleted the last message. Smiling to herself, she knew who had her heart and exactly what direction she wanted to go. The past could stay right where it was. Sir was her future.

Thank you Wicked Wednesday for this week’s prompt: “You come home and check your phone messages. You get to the third and freeze. Begin from there.” I’ve often wondered what I would do if this happened to me. I have no doubt that I would follow Babygirl’s lead.
