I Don’t Sleep Alone

His warmth pressed against my back.

His light snoring comforted me.

I didn’t expect him to sleep with me last night.

I forgot how nice it feels to have someone next to me.

Until…

He stole the covers,

Kicked me in the ribs,

And yelled,

“Mommy, wake up!!!”

  • That is sweet.

Believe it or not, my grown (21 and 19) boys will sometimes crawl into bed or spread out on the sofa and put their heads or feet in my lap so they can soul-search with me. It comes from all those nights telling bedtime stories, when their “life’s important questions” would come tumbling out.

I am really going to miss not being next door to them any more.

    • ((hugs))

I hope I have a close relationship with my boys when they’re older…someone I know told a story of a time she hurt herself…when she called her son to come over and help her, he took one look at her, picked her up in his arms, and drove her to the hospital…all I could think was that I hope my boys would do the same for me…

  • This was so adorable. Totally made me laugh. No one shares my bed with me and I’m so used to sleeping along that I’m not sure I could handle someone else in my bed.

    • The first few times he got in the bed with me, I was very grumpy about it. I like having my bed to myself…but I also know that they’re only little once, and his brother grew out of it (finally) so eventually he will too…

  • Hahaha too cute. My daughter does not kick but pops me in the nose “momma” and she will do it till I’m up. We have a king size bed but I feel like I have a twin.

  • My kids normally sleep with me when they are here. Especially the babies. They are 4 and 3. They have been at their dads all week and I have missed them alot. I’ve had the bed to myself all week. This made me think of them…Thanks for the laugh and its all so true!

    • It took me a year to stop my oldest from sleeping in the bed with me – he’s horrible to share a bed with…I thought I escaped it with my youngest, but in the past few weeks, he’s figured out that all the cool little boys sleep in Mommy’s bed…he’s a good sleeper, but he gets squirmy when he’s ready to wake up…lol

      • I’ve always had my kids sleep with me especially after the divorce with the older three. I did it when the youngest three were younger because I breast fed and it was just easier. It just seemed like a way for me to connect with them. Or maybe its just me being selfish and just wanting as much time as I can get with them. When I have all five at the same time, ages 17-4, We all pile up in my room for bed. Two or three end up on the floor and the rest of us on the bed. Sometimes I sleep sometimes I don’t lol…I’ve missed them though the past week of sleeping by myself. I don’t do alone well. You always have the best posts. Thanks for sharing.

  • haha I remember when I was younger, I would hover over my mum and try to work out if she was sleeping: I’d pull her eyelids and whisper “mum are you awake?” she’d mumble “no” and I would settle down for about 5mins before repeating my actions!
drove my mum batty sometimes, especially if it was early in the morning 😀
